Campers Arrive for a Great Challenge

Article submitted by Julie Merrin, Field Coordinator in SE Asia

The kids really had a great time at summer camp, and I trust that they will long remember the lessons they learned on the camp.

The campers arrived thinking that they would be taking part in a regular hike through somewhat mountainous areas for part of the camp.  The plan changed, though, and they ended up climbing the highest mountain on the island.  Let me assure you that they learned a lot about relying on God for strength and about encouraging each other.  Our campers (not including the adults) ranged in age from 13 through 19.

Some topics touched on during this camp were “The Armour of God” and “Hearing from God”, and “Working Together as a Team”.  We also had the opportunity to hear each camper share his or her life story…to whatever extent they felt comfortable to share.  After the story, the other campers had a chance to pray for the friend who had just shared a story that often brought tears to your eyes.  It was beautiful to see the kids ministering to each other.  I know several of the campers were deeply touched during this time of sharing, and I pray that they will continue to grow with God as they seek to follow Him into better paths than the paths they had been traveling on through life.

Thank you for your prayers for this camp.  Please don’t stop praying.  Now we continue to follow up with the campers in the months ahead.
