The Kiss from Heaven

Article submitted by Norberto and Julie Kurrle, Field Coordinators in Paraguay Yesterday I spent a good part of the day weeping. A Short-Term Mission Trip Encourages

Article submitted by Gary Wadding, MVI Staff A short-term mission trip is an adventure which will have lasting benefits in more ways than you might think at first. Of course the major aim of the trip is to help the people living in that foreign country. Help might mean different things, such as: helping to [...]

Nicaragua Vocational School Update

Article submitted by Mike & Lauren Deibert, Field Coordinators in Nicaragua Our first official school year in the new vocational building has come to a very fulfilling end!  I (Mike) can’t believe it; over 80 students were trained and ministered to in electricity, auto mechanics, welding, and blacksmithing. Let’s go paint a speed bump!

OK, so this is the first ‘blog’ I’ve ever done… here goes:

So, we went careening over a steep bank last Friday night at 8:30 — a couple drunk guys in a beat-up pick-up didn’t slow down for the speed bump like we did and rear-ended us big-time. By the grace of God, and Arlen’s quick thinking and hands on the wheel, we did not roll.

5 days later, a minivan full of tourists didn’t see the bump – broad daylight – mid-morning – slight rain – and went flying off the other side of the road, rolling three times and stopping on it’s side within feet of a pond/river in a pasture. Most were wounded, broken ribs was the worst.

So… a good friend of ours, Virgil Stoltzfus, decided today was the day to go paint that speed bump. His wife, Dara, and daughter, Ali, picked me up and off we went with a gallon of yellow paint and a gallon of black.

Do you see the speed bump? Hmmm... not really... definitely not very 'night-visible'.

A 'warning' sign actually does exist.

Uh, yea, this is where we went flying off the road. Fortunately for us, we had slowed to about 10 mph, but it's still totally a miracle that we didn't roll.

Paint, paint, paint, we did. The smiley face wasn’t my idea, but it was a fun crew. Kevin and Marv are two members of a Canadian team we are currently hosting, and Noah is an MV intern, who will be serving with us for the next 6 months.

Ok, so there, I did it… I blogged for the first time in my life… hmmm… now I’m gonna go look and see if it turned out OK.
