It was our most distant mission, it was the hardest and [...]

Heat is a Luxury

Article submitted by Norb & Julie Kurrle, Field Coordinators in Paraguay It’s been cold here the last few days and today we woke up to about 0 degree celcius.  We’re giving our new wood burning stove a work out; yesterday we kept it burning all day!  While we are thankful for a cozy home, the [...]

Tell Me “My Story”

Article submitted by Julie Merrin, Field Coordinator in SE Asia Rachel was sitting next to me recently…chattering away, as usual.  I’m not sure how, but somehow, the conversation turned  to her asking something about “her story”.  The story of how she came to be with me.  She has heard this story many times before, but [...]

Peru: December 2010

open-team-peru-dec-2010Who is Jason? Jason is Angel Oyola’s dear sweet son of 29-years who was born with Down Syndrome.  Once you meet him, your heart melts.  So it is with every Down Syndrome child we have ever met no matter how old they are.

You can see why we have such a heart for these children. In Moyobamba there is a special needs school for children up to the age 15. After that, unlike in the States, there are no other programs for these precious ones. Thankfully in Moyobamba the parents/grandparents do the best they can to care for these children unlike the conditions we saw in Tarapoto and it’s surrounding areas.

It is our heart to provide something for these young men and women and we’d like to start next December 2010 with an extravaganza similar to the Special Olympics that Angel’s son Jason takes part in every year.

We are asking for a team to come and serve these precious jewels of our Lord. It will entail putting together different events for them to compete in (of course everyone is a winner) and a celebration.

The team would be responsible for bringing gifts for the competitors and a heart big enough to love on them. We will be putting our attention on the development of this throughout the year so more details will be available as it gets closer.

If you love sports or not, have a heart for special needs and a desire to share the love of Christ, come be a part of this 1st year Special Needs Extravaganza Kickoff.

We are praying and believing for so much more to come out of this. For the families to know how much they are loved and appreciated. For a ministry to them and their children to develop. For the community to come to understand their part in caring for those who are in need.

The dates have not yet been sealed but we are looking at the 2nd week of December 2010 as a possibility.

Email Amber Russelburg to join this team.
