The Story of Anda in SE Asia

Article submitted by MVAustralia Staff

Johannes, Feri and Martin had been awaiting funding for CMA motorcycles. As soon as funds became available three bikes were purchased, one of which was a three-wheeled bike with a pick-up bed on the back. This particular bike would be used to haul recyclables as a micro-business with the purpose of opening doors for sharing the gospel. This was the first time such a bike had been purchased and they were looking forward to see how it would work out as a ministry tool.

Two weeks after the bike was received Johannes, Feri and Martin were out driving. Johannes lost control of his bike and ran head on into a young man standing by the side of the road. The young man named Anda was rushed to the hospital, the bike was seized by the police, and the boys were devastated at what had happened knowing they were responsible for Anda’s severe head injuries.

Anda was hospitalized for two months following surgery to remove shattered skull fragments from his brain. During this time Johannes and his fellow field workers maintained regular hospital visits, asking each time for permission to pray for the young man. They took full responsibility for the accident and covered all the required medical expenses. Anda’s family was very surprised by their act of responsibility. In this culture it is normal to deny responsibility and run the other way.

During this time police were still holding the CMA motorcycle and Johannes and his friends were told they would need to pay a huge amount of money to get it back. In this situation, God prevailed. The police officer in charge saw that they were taking responsibility for their actions and helped by reducing the fine. He also helped organize a letter of peace between Johannes and Anda’s family. This prevented any public court costs.

Following Anda’s hospital stay, they continued to maintain relationship and developed a friendship with Anda and his family who are Muslim. Out of this relationship they commenced sharing their faith in God, the great Healer.

The doctors had told Anda he would never speak or properly walk again. Yet Anda is now attending school and using a cane to walk. Just last month they showed the Jesus film to Anda and his family. The family seemed receptive to what they were hearing and seeing.

What we saw in our humanity as a tragedy, God saw as an opportunity to glorify Himself and give witness to His Kingdom

Please pray with us for Anda’s family as these three young men continue to minister and share the Truth.
