Witchdoctor in Uganda

latest-news-witchdoctor-in-uganda-01In 2006 we took a small team to the village of Bugango on the border ofUganda and Tanzania.  Half way through the mission, a 52-year-old man marched up on the platform at the beginning of a crusade.  He was Isaac – a Muslim, a drunkard and the most powerful and greatly feared witchdoctor in the region.  He hated Christians and hated God, opposing all pastors and believers.

One night after a crusade God told Isaac to “get rid of everything and be born again”.   He packed up all of his witchcraft paraphernalia and the next night came up on the platform, dropped his bag and confessed before a shocked and silent crowd that he believed in Jesus.

“Do not come to me any more.” he said,  “I am not your Witchdoctor.  I am  ‘shifting’ in the day so you will KNOW I am serious.”  He then asked Pastor Willy to destroy all his witchcraft paraphernalia. Pastor Willy emptied the bag, crushed everything under his feet (Ps 18.36-38), poured paraffin over it all and set it on fire!  Itlatest-news-witchdoctor-in-uganda-02 burned for over two hours!

In 2008, we were back in that area and hoped to find Isaac again.  He was there–all smiles and hugs.  Here is a summary of the testimony he shared that day:

“I was afraid God would not be able to destroy my most powerful “tool” (a small pointed gourd).  Then Pastor Willy crushed it under his foot and blood poured out all over the platform.  I was afraid; but then everything was set on fire.  It took a long time to burn, but it burned–it was all destroyed!  God has all power. He is stronger than witchcraft.”

He told us how his 8 daughters were now all believers in Jesus and though his wife held out for a time, she too became a believer.  There is now peace in their home.  He is no longer a drunkard but grows and sells beans, saves his money and provides for his family.  Isaac is a miracle of God!
